A house on Exposition Boulevard—a path along Audubon Park—has received a permit for a $768,000 renovation after winning an appeal with the The Historic District Landmarks Commission (HDLC).
Initially, the permit to demolish a section of the house was denied. However, the homeowners appealed the decision and rallied thirteen neighbors to write in expressing their support. Among them, Saints Head Coach Sean Payton expressed that the renovation would "greatly contribute to the Architectural culture of New Orleans."
The appeal went to City Council, where Councilmember Kristin G. Palmer was the only member to vote against overruling the denial.
The contractor for the project is Guidry Custom Homes, which is based on Canal Street. The building permits show substantial modifications to the exterior of the house, including expansion of most windows, and additional rooms on the second floor.
